Bunge Argentina is one of the country´s main agribusiness companies, it has several port terminals, supply stores, and industrial premises where they recieve a great amount of trucks developing the movement of goods from and into their facilities.
The main reason to implement the vehicular management system based in RFID was the need to minimize the time it took to control each transport in every internal process and, at the same time to develop a strict tracking of their circuits.
The main implementation was in the industrial site at the port "General San Martín", on the banks of the "Paraná" river, there 7.500 tons of soya beans are processed daily, obtaining flour and crude oil.
The port terminal has two docks (Pampa port and Dempa port), with a joint load capacity of 3000 tons / hour.
During high season, this terminal can process up to 5.000 trucks per day, making vehicular control a strategic tool for the agile management of operations.
The complete installation adds 60 RFID read points, distributed in operational areas such as:
- Entry to the building
- Sampling for quality control
- Weighing (tare and gross)
- Unloading points
- Entry to parking lots
The system allows Bunge to know the status of each truck inside the plants and to automate actions such as the opening of barriers, the vehicle calling, the weighing, and the transport verification.
One of the main characteristics of the project was the embrace of vehicle identification with a RFID tag that is destroyed when removed, this made allowances for implementing controls in pursuit of reducing the chances of fraud.
